Capacitor Discharge Ignition (CDI) or thyristor ignition is a type of automotive electronic ignition system which is exclusive for your YAMAHA vehicle. It is developed to overcome the long charging times associated with high inductance coils used in Inductive Discharge Ignition (IDI) systems, making the ignition system more suitable for high engine speeds (for small engines, racing engines). The capacitive-discharge ignition uses the capacitor discharge current output to fire the spark plugs.
Why use YAMAHA Genuine CDI Unit
A YAMAHA Genuine CDI unit is manufactured and designed by the highly skilled engineers to time precisely when the spark plug will fire, at any point in the rev range, to provide the maximum power output under all predictable conditions. It also allows for an efficient limiting of engine revs in top gear.
